Jimmy Savile Manchester DJ

SIR Jimmy Savile dies at 84 after a bought of Pneumonia
Jim, from Leeds had strong links with Manchester.

He was a Manchester DJ on the BBC's Top of the Pops which in the 60's was broadcast from studios located in an old church on Dickinson Road In Rusholme. Jimmy was the resident DJ in the sixties decade at the TOP TEN Club in the Elizabethan Ballroom in Belle Vue, and he also worked at the Mecca Ballroom and the Ritz in the city. He also operated for a short time as owner of a club in Fountain Street in Manchester City centre called the THREE COINS, before passing It over to another Manchester DJ (Twisted Wheel) Roger Eagle who renamed it the STAX Club.

The Stone Roses

The Stone Roses put Manchester on the map in terms of the indie music scene from the 1980s until the band broke up in 1996. The band produced hits such as "She bangs the Drum" and
"Fools gold".

The band has been publicised in the press many times with rumoured regroupings and then dismissals mainly due to the feud between lead singer Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire, who both went on to lead successful solo careers since 1996, yet neither reaching the same success as with The Stone Roses.

Ian Brown one of Manchesters musical talents, first made it big with The Stone Roses, and due to their recent reunion they will no doubt have the same if not bigger success again.

He then after the bands 1996 split (and a two year break from the music) went on to have a successful solo career, bringing out half a dozen solo albums and fourteen uk top 40 singles and remaining an indie icon and musical legend for many.
